There was Pandemonium in Kemta, Idi Aba area of Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Monday when a passenger who was on his way to buy herbal medicine died inside a taxi.
The deceased, identified as Michael Hogan, was on his way to Idi Aba from Odeda in Odeda Local Government but gave up the ghost before getting to his destination.
The taxi driver was said to have gotten wind of the tragedy when Hogan could not alight from the vehicle on getting to this destination.
The alarm raised by the driver drew the attention of those around to the scene.
It was gathered that the deceased, who had been ill for some time, was on his way to the home of a herbal vendor in Abeokuta, when the tragedy struck.
According to eyewitness, the driver, who attempted to flee the scene of the tragedy, was encouraged by people around to report the incident to the nearest police station, which is Kemta-Idi Aba Divisional Police Headquarters, Kemta.
On arrival at the police station, the driver was detained while the officers had to contend with the curious crowd that trooped to the station so as to see both the driver and corpse.
Confirming the tragedy, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the taxi driver at about 7:45am, discovered that a passenger, had died in his car at Iyana Mortuary area, adding that upon the discovery, he went to report the case at the Police station.
The State Police spokesperson noted that the family of the deceased had been contacted, and they claimed Hogan had been ill for a long time.
“The family said Hogan left home early in the morning for Abeokuta to collect herbal remedies not knowing that would be his end.
“The police will soon release the corpse to the family for burial as requested after due process must have been followed,” he said.
