Confusion as gunmen invade burial, kill late woman’s son

Pandemonium broke out in Benin, Edo State capital when gunmen invaded the burial ceremony of one Deaconess Taiwo Albert, Killing her son, Dupe Idahor.

It was gathered that the 42-year-old victim, Dupe Idahor, was said to be under a canopy with friends and relatives when the gunmen arrived in a car and opened fire on him.

Family members and sympathisers, left the remains of the deceased as they took to their heels when they heard gunshots rending the air.

According to Vanguard, An eyewitness said, they all scampered for safety, abandoning the corpse of the 82-year-old woman, Deaconess Taiwo Albert, which was laid in state.”

He said the armed men abandoned their operational vehicle, snatched another car belonging to the deceased’s friend and sped off, adding that the car was recovered yesterday by the Police.

Another family member, who craved anonymity, alleged that a friend of their brother organized the attack that led to his death. He said the body of the woman was later laid to rest Sunday morning.

The Edo State Police spokesman, DSP Chidi Nwanbuzor, said he was yet to get details of the killing, promising to contact the Textile Mill Police station, DPO.
