Confederations Cup: Super Eagles to leave for Brazil on Saturday after resolving bonus row

The Super Eagles have resolved their bonus row with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and will now depart for Brazil on Saturday, where they are expected to feature in the Confederations Cup.

The players refused to board a flight on Thursday from Namibia, after the NFF offered to pay them $5,000, instead of $10,000 as match bonuses for defeating the Harambee Stars of Kenya last week. Their $5,000 bonus for draws, was also slashed to $2,500 after a 1-1 draw with Namibia this week, which resulted in the protest.

“I spoke with the team manager and they will be in a plane on Saturday and will be at the Confederations Cup, so the issue is solved,” Fifa general secretary Jerome Valke told Reuters.

Nigeria is scheduled to play their first game of the competition against Tahiti on Monday.
