Barcelona’s left-back Jordi Alba, scored twice, as Spain defeated Nigeria 3-0 to finish on top of Group B.
The Super Eagles came into their last group match, needing a miracle to progress into the semi-finals, after they lost 2-1 to Uruguay on Wednesday. However, as early as the third minute, their ambitions suffered a setback, after Alba burst into the area and slid the ball past Vincent Enyeama.
Credit to Stephen Keshi’s men, they fought their way back into the game, but poor finishing let them down on two many occasions. Ideye and Akpala, were especially guilty of missing good chances.
Fernando Torres, who replaced Soldado later in the game, put the game beyond the Eagles, with a fine diving header, before Alba found himself clean through on goal, to make it 3-0.
Spain will now face Italy, while Uruguay who thumped Tahiti 7-0, will face hosts Brazil.
