Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola, has admitted that it was difficult to beat Chelsea in the Community Shield game on Sunday.
He said they won the game because the mentality of the players was right.
The former Bayern Munich coach also spoke on retaining the Premier League title they won last season.
The Spaniard spoke after the Citizens beat Chelsea 2-0 to lift the Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.
Two goals in each of the halves by Sergio Aguero settled the game.
Although the former Barcelona boss was delighted with the win, he acknowledged that they beat a strong team.
“I congratulate all the players,” he told BT Sport.
“It was so tough in the first half with the heat but we started well, so good. The mentality was right and we beat a strong team.”
When asked whether it will be tougher to defend the title this season, Guardiola added, “We don’t have to think about this too much.
“This was the first game, now we need to prepare for the next one. We will see at the end of the season.”
