Communications minister, Adebayo Shittu petitions Oyegun over Ajimobi’s ‘undemocratic actions&

The Minister of Communications, Barrister Abdulraheem Adebayo Shittu has petitioned the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Oyegun, over what he described as “the undemocratic conducts and actions of Governor Abiola Ajimobi of the state.”

The party, DAILY POST recalled has been engulfed with crisis over who will be in control of the party between the faction loyal to the state Governor known as SENACO and the one loyal to former Governor of the state, Alhaji Lam Adesina, now known as APC Unity Forum.

This has led to factionalisation of the party, which culminated into holding of parallel state congresses few weeks ago by the two groups.

Shittu, in a four-page petition dated 5th June, 2018, a copy which was sent to DAILY POST, cited many actions allegedly taken by the Governor without the proper consultation of the party elders.

The Saki-born legal luminary in the letter copied to President Muhammadu Buhari; National Leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; Chief Bisi Akande; Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki and Speaker House of Representatives Hon. Yakubu Dogara titled, “Appeal to save the soul of All Progressives Congress, Oyo State Chapter” also complained about the selection of the new Speaker of the state house of Assembly.

Shittu lamented that the actions of the Governor without proper consultation of party elders and members made the party lose the recently conducted bye-election in the state.

The Minister, who revealed that Ajimobi by fortune became the first two-term governor in the state, decried that the Governor since he won his second term election had denied majority of members of the party many benefits and at the same time ensured that only his opinions counted.

Shittu said “You may wish to recall that the Governor Abiola Ajimobi won his re-election on the platform of our dear party in 2015, making him the first Governor to win re-election bid since creation of Oyo state in 1976.

“However, since his emergence, the Governor has alienated the majority of members, stakeholders and elders of the party and he has instead decided to run the party like a fiefdom where only his opinion counts”.
