Economic activities in Kaduna metropolis have been grounded following a mass protest by commercial drivers against what they described as stringent conditions and unfriendly behaviours meted to them by officials of Kaduna State Traffic and Environmental Law Agency, KASTELA.
Policemen took over strategic positions in Kaduna to guard against any breakdown of law and order.
Commuters were seen trekking to far distances while most civil servants found it very difficult to go to their places of assignments.
Most of the commercial drivers, who spoke to DAILY POST said they were fed up with the way they were being treated by the officials of KASTELA.
They called on governor Nasiru Ahmed El-Rufai to immediately cancel the agency for the interest of all in the state.
Others argued that there was the need for measures to be taken to further educate the officials of KASTELA for effective and efficient service delivery to the general public.
A commercial driver, Malam Nasir Mohammed noted that since taking over the streets of Kaduna and other towns in the state by KASTELA, life had never been the same with the commercial drivers.
They stressed that the essence of the agency was to ensure harmonious working relationship for the interest of all stakeholders in the state.
He called on governor Nasiru Ahmed El-Rufai to urgently intervene and ensure that both parties enjoyed a good relationship rather than being confrontational everyday.
All efforts made to get the views of officials of KASTELA and that of Mr. Samuel Aruwan, governor El-Rufai’s spokesman was futile as he did not answer calls.
