A 32-year-old commercial driver, Alex Okochi on Wednesday appeared before a Gudu Upper Area Court charged with assaulting two Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO), while on duty. The accused, Okochi, pleaded not guilty when the charge of assault on public servants was read to him in court.
The Prosecutor, Oyeyemi Adeniyi told the court that the accused assaulted the officers, Messrs Terkuala Raymond and Abdrahman Tijani, while performing their statutory duties at the Bannex junction in Wuse, Abuja.
Adeniyi said that the offence contravened section 267 of the Penal Code Law.
The Judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko granted the driver N50,000 bail with one reliable surety who must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
He adjourned the case till March, 31 for hearing.
