College workers lock council members, management over non-payment of outstanding salaries in Oyo [PH

Workers at the Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo, one of the institutions owned by the Oyo State Government, on Thursday locked the school management members and members of Governing Council of the institution inside the school premises over non-payment of their seventeen months salaries.

DAILY POST gathered that a meeting was held between the management and staff of the institution yesterday, but the staff insisted that their 17 months outstanding salaries should be paid.

This decision made the staff to proceed to the entrance of the college and locked the gates.

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Comrade Segun Oyewumi said, “We have been at the school gate since morning, our agitation is demanding for salary arrears.

“They have the money with them and we learnt that the management is ready to pay us but the Governing Council said that they should enforce the policy of no work no pay.

“If they want to enforce no work no pay, they should pay us our 17 month salaries, we are not the only college on strike, it is a national strike and the Federal college that even introduced the no work no pay policy is paying our colleagues at FCE.

“We have been receiving 56.5% of our salary, they should balance us and we will return to work.”
