A group of registered political parties, under the aegis of Coalition for New Nigeria (CNN) has raised the alarm that President Muhammadu Buhari-led government has failed Nigerians.
According to the coalition, a continuation of the situation would lead the country into a state of anarchy.
Against that backdrop, the coalition disclosed on Wednesday that it had set-up a committee to design a clear cut agenda for a new government that “will enthusiastically and dutifully work towards ensuring there was a needed shift in the way this country is governed.”
Addressing journalists in Abuja, National Chairman of the Coalition, Alhaji Abdulkadir Salam, further called for the creation of a Ministry of National Integration in order to halt the high speed at which the nation was drifting into anarchy.
While reviewing recent developments in the country, Salam suggested the setting up of a Government of National Unity, GNU, which would be inclusive of various shades of opinions/interests in the country.
He said the coalition noted with high sense of disappointment the internal insecurity and violence, occasioned by unabated attacks of the herdsmen and elements of Boko Haram, in North East, North Central, and other parts of the country.
According to him, parts of indices of failed government were “the crass poverty and erosion in Nigeria, the massive and ravaging unemployment in the land, an economy that is hobbled by policy inertia and the slanted propaganda and brigandage of the government makes jest of all us a country.“
He expressed disappointment that the Buhari-led government was involved in “External borrowing in spite of recoveries of looted funds, new streams of income, generated internally, taxes, duties, etc, which are not visibly applied anywhere in Nigeria.
“The seeming lack of interest or will on the part of the Federal Government to control this negative and dangerous trend that threatens national unity.”
