Club World Cup: San Lorenzo can shock Real Madrid’s ‘billionaire team’ – Tin

Tinelli San Lorenzo

Vice-president of Argentine club San Lorenzo, Marcelo Tinelli, has insisted that they can shock European champions Real Madrid, despite not having the muscle to match the La Liga side financially.

Both teams will play each other in the final of the Club World Cup on Saturday and Lorenzo says the South Americans are capable of surprising their more illustrious opponents.

Madrid boast of the current Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo and are in the middle of a 21-game winning run in all competitions.

“This is the story of a billionaire team against a lowly one,” Lorenzo said. “Madrid are the best in the world.

“But remember that the story was the same at the World Cup when Argentina faced Iran.

“If [Argentina captain and match-winner] Messi hadn’t been there, we wouldn’t have won.

“That’s the beauty of football. And I think we are going to play a good match against Real Madrid.

“My wish is to win the World Club Cup against Real Madrid. I do not ask more.”

San Lorenzo midfielder Julio Buffarini added that he and his colleagues fully intend to savour the occasion.

“It has been my dream to win the World Club Cup against Real Madrid,” he admitted. “I could not ask for more.”
