The Civil Liberties Organisation has described as erroneous the report of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (United Kingdom), which included Akwa Ibom State as one of the volatile and crisis-stricken states in Nigeria.
The United Kingdom had on Tuesday 18/6/2019 in a statement on its government’s website had warned it’s citizens not to travel to some Nigerian states including Akwa Ibom, citing violence and insecurity in such states as reasons for the warning.
Worried by the report, the CLO through its state, Chairman Franklyn Isong, in a press conference in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state capital on Tuesday, stated categorically that Akwa Ibom state is one of the safest states in Nigeria as adjudged by several security experts and agencies.
He added that the state remained an inviting location for foreign investors, and other Nigerians who troop to the State for one business or the other.
According to Isong, “It was wrong to include a state like Akwa Ibom that is safe, peaceful and has no security issue on the UK security watch list.”
He, however, lauded Governor Emmanuel’s efforts in tackling crimes and criminalities in the state especially his disposition in the peaceful resolution of the EtimEkpo/ Ika and Ukanafun crisis urging him to continue to support security agencies in the state.
