Crisis rocking the management of National Assembly deepened on Tuesday with a letter written declining Senate President, Bukola Saraki’s request that the Commission reverse the appointment of Mr Mohammed Sani-Omolori as acting Clerk to the National Assembly and replace him with a Deputy Director, Mr Benedict Efeturi who he said was the most senior.
Saraki’s letter which was written by his Chief of Staff, Senator Isa Galaudu follows the incumbent Clerk to the Senate’s pre-retirement leave which begins on 14th May, 2016.
In a twist, Dr. Adamu Fika, Executive Chairman, National Assembly Service Commission in his response to the Senate President dated 26th April, 2016 absolved National Assembly Service Commission of wrongdoing, noting that Mr. Efeturi was time barred to act as he will be proceeding on his pre-retirement leave on 2nd August, 2016.
The letter reads: “The above decision was taken at the Commission’s 440th meeting held on the 20th day of April, 2016. The Commission took into account the fact that Mr. Benedict Efeturi will himself proceed on his pre-retirement leave on 2nd August, 2016, twelve days before the incumbent Clerk will be due to hand over to his successor”.
The letter in paragraph 4 further clarified that available Civil Service Records shows Mr Mohammed Sani-Omolori was senior to Efeturi, hence, the situation was untenable.
“In the light of the foregoing, Your Excellency will agree that reversing the decision of the Commission appointing Mr. Mohammed Sani-Omolori as the Acting Clerk to the National Assembly cannot be tenable in the circumstance”, it maintained.
