Leaders and members of Civilian Joint Task Force, CJTF in Borno state have yesterday debunked a media report, that its Leader, in the person of Baba Lawan Jafar has been arrested by the military in connection with his alleged relationship/link with Boko Haram.
The report also claimed that the arrested leader has about 20 houses in Maiduguri, the state capital with a vast farmland along Pompomari Bye Pass which he (Jafar) used in keeping 500 cows within the metropolis.
The report further said, the leader has an edifice in Abuja, and that after search was conducted in the said mansion, the sum of N500 million cash was recovered.
Briefing Journalists Yesterday, the Legal Adviser of the CJTF, Barrister Jubrin Gunda said, “to put the record straight, there was no time when the CJTF leader was arrested and released at the instance of the State Attorney General, Barrister Kaka Shehu Lawan.
“Moreso, the CJTF leader is not under arrest either by the military or any of the security agencies in the state”.
It said that the newspaper should substantiate its claims with evidences showing where the leader was arrested and detained, the houses acquired and the monies recovered, or retract its baseless publication and tender unreserved apology within three days.
Gunda insisted that if the newspaper failed to retract its story, and cannot substantiate its claims, appropriate legal action would be taken.
He further stressed that the same newspaper indeed claimed that member representing Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, MMC, Hon. Abdulkadir Rahis was arrested and released on bail.
Gunda, however, pointed out that the Honourable Member, Rahis, has never been arrested by any security agents whether in Abuja, Borno or anywhere in the country.
He said that the CJTF emerged in 2013 as a ‘child of neccesity’ to voluntarily assist or compliment efforts of gallant security agents in the fight against insurgents and other terror activities in the north east sub- region, adding that, anyone or group of persons, institution or organization that choses to toe the line of mischief, blackmail to derail the moral of CJTF members will not succeed, as its members are committed to discharging their duties effectively with the support from Governor Kashim Shettima.
