One Lasbary Onyeami has died during an operation to rescue some kidnap victims in Isiokpo, Ikwerre Local government area of Rivers State.
DAILY POST gathered that Onyeami, a civilian, was killed during exchange of gunfire when he led security operatives to the hideout of the kidnappers in a bush in Isiokpo.
It was gathered that the kidnapped victims, a Pastor and his wife were kidnapped on their return from Church but were rescued unhurt.
Similarly, a notorious kidnap kingpin was arrested by security operatives at Omuale Community, also in Ikwerre Local government area of the state.
The kingpin whose identity is yet to be revealed was arrested during a raid on his camp in Omuale in a joint security operation.
Chairman of Ikwerre Local government, Samuel Nwanosike confirmed the incidents to DAILY POST.
Nwanosike said he has been collaborating with security agencies to clear the farms and forests in Ikwerre Local government area of criminals.
Nwanosike, a former Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party in the Rivers State, added that his administration would take the fight to the criminals’ hideouts in forests and communities in the area.
According to him, “The security agents posted to Ikwerre Local Government Area have been doing a wonderful work. Right from the time we took the oath of office, these criminals who threatened before the election that it would not hold in Rivers State, greeted us by the kidnap of a bus coming back from Owerri to Port Harcourt at Omadaeme.
“In less than 48hours by the grace of God, security agents with our support via logistics and information were able to release the victims unhurt and the perpetrators were arrested.
“As if that was not enough, two days later, a pastor and his wife were also kidnapped in Isiokpo, unfortunately, we lost one of our reliable supporters, popularly known as Lasbery Onyeami. He lost his life in the process of rescuing the victims who were later rescued. I can assure you those suspects have been arrested and the full weight of the law will take its course.
“We have said it clearly that no civilian general will be allowed to operate in the 13 wards of the Ikwerre Local Government Area. No matter who is behind you, we are warriors in our land.
“We have worked out a road map to say no to kidnapping, no to criminality of all sorts in Ikwerre LGA. As I am talking with you now (yesterday) security agents have arrested one of the notorious kingpins with 28 AK47 from Omademe community.”
