In its continuous manhunt for the once dreaded sect group, Boko Haram in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, the Youths Vigilante Group otherwise known as “Civilian JTF”, has taken over the search operation in major roads within the state capital.
The group that has captured and handed over countless sect members involved in the killings of innocent people in the state were said to have sought the permission of the government and JTF to intensify their manhunt of Boko Haram members following a recent threat by the sect to regroup against the youth in the state.
DailyPost went round some major parts of the state and can authoritatively report that, the youth are succeeding in the operations as a number of suspects were continuously been handed over to the Military who parked their Hilux Vehicle a 100 metres away from the point of the operation.
Speaking with one of the youth at his duty post in front of Dr. Shettima Ali Monguno’s house where a lot of vehicles were stopped and searched, the youth who identified himself as Sani, told our correspondent that, they were determined to get the sect members including their leaders, as they all know them and are not afraid of their empty threats.
“We are tired of being arrested by soldiers for their sake, we are pained by the lost of our brothers and friends for their sake. The Federal Government has neglected Borno for their sake, and food items are on the increase because they have made everything difficult for everybody. We would not rest until we bring them to book.” Sani told DailyPost in Maiduguri.
When asked how many they were able to nab today (Saturday), he said, ” I do not know because we are everywhere. Here, in front of Shettima Ali Monguno’s house, we got three of them, in some other places, they would get them and we would beat them before handing them over to the security. The security have allowed us to beat them because that way, we feel better.”
DailyPost also gathered that, security around the once abducted former petroleum Minister, Monguno has been beefed up since his release some few months ago.
When DailyPost attempted to go into the house of the former Minister’s house, men of the SSS told the reporter that, the old man would not want to see anybody and would not speak on Boko Haram.
It would be recalled that, prior to his abduction, the former petroleum Minister was one of the few Borno elders who was calling for the withdrawal of JTF from the streets in Borno.
