A member of Saint Peter’s Catholic Church, Ejigbo, Lagos state, identified simply as Kingsley, has been arrested for beating his pregnant wife and allegedly stealing money from the church’s offering box.

Kingsley who, according to reports had earlier been arrested for same offence, had gone to church on Thursday for the regular morning mass when he was again apprehended by the church’s private guards and the N5,000, he allegedly stole, was recovered from him.

Kingsley had reportedly stayed behind pretending to be having personal prayer time, while other worshipers left after the mass. Thereafter, he reportedly went to where the offering box was kept, brought out a glue-coated stick and dipped it inside the offering box.

When he pulled it out, some money got stuck to the stick, Vanguard reports.

One of the private security men, who quietly monitored him in the act, searched him on his way out of the chapel and was said to have recovered N5, 000.

Subsequently, Kingsley was taken to the parish priest, who directed that he should be released on compassionate grounds.

However, on getting home, an argument ensued between him and his wife.

His unidentified wife had confronted him and accused him of being shameless over his act.

Kingsley was said to have beat his wife and the assault on his wife was reported at the Ejigbo Police Division, which led to his arrest.

The suspect, during investigation, reportedly blamed his conduct on his inability to take care of his pregnant wife, while he asked for mercy.
