Contrary to the reports in some quarters that the Committee Chairman of Nnewi South Local Government of Anambra State, Chief Egwuoyibo Okoye was among the worshippers who died during the collapse of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Okoye himself has come out to debunk the news, saying he was not in the collapsed building.

Chief Okoye who described the reports as “false, misleading and ridiculous,” in a statement, emphasised that he was not a victim of the collapsed church.

He said, “Since the news reports were published, people have been calling me on the telephone from within and outside the country to find out if what they read was true.

“While I thank all my well wishers who showed concern about me, I wish to make it clear that I was not a victim of the collapsed church in my community. I am still alive, hale and hearty.”

It would be recalled that Chief Okoye and three others were reported by some media houses on December 10 to have been among the dead in the tragic church incident the occurred in his country home.
