The Rivers State Police Command has assured of adequate security arrangements throughout the Christmas season.
Briefing newsmen at the command’s headquarters in Port Harcourt, state Commissioner of Police, Zaki Ahmed said the command is aware of increase in crime rate during festive periods.
CP Ahmed stated that patrols have been beefed up around the Elele-Omurele axis of Port Harcourt-Owerri, the Emohua-Ahaoda axis of the East West road and other flashpoints in the State.
CP Ahmed also spoke on the need for political parties to maintain decorum as campaigns for the 2019 general elections begin, emphasizing that the Police in the state will remain apolitical before, during and after the elections.
The Command also banned the sale and use of Fireworks, Crackers and Knockouts during the yuletide.
“May I therefore appeal to parents and guardians alike to desist from the use of these prohibited devices and parents to warn their children and wards against the use.
“Retailers of these devices are equally advised and warned to stop the sale as any person or group of persons found flouting will be arrested and prosecuted”, CP Ahmed insisted.
