The wife of Rivers State Governor, Mrs Suzette Nyesom-Wike, on Friday urged Christians to work for peace and friendship in order to enhance societal growth.
Wike made the call when she led female government functionaries and wives of government officials on a visit to the Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital in Port Harcourt as part of the Christmas festivities.
Wike, a High Court judge, said that the Christmas period ought to be used to promote love, peace and unity among the people.
She said the birth of Jesus Christ represented the highest level of love of God for humanity.
The governor’s wife said it was imperative that all Christians emulate the qualities of Jesus Christ.
She urged the people of the state to always live for their neighbours in order to promote peace and development.
According to the governor`s wife, her visit to the hospital was to celebrate children born on Christmas Day, congratulate their mothers and also encourage other patients.
“I am happy that we have our Christmas Babies. I am happy that the three mothers delivered their babies safely.
“ These babies represent the future and God’s miracle to mankind,’’ she said.
The governor’s wife prayed that the babies grow up to be blessing to their families and the society.
Wike later presented gifts to the mothers of the babies and other patients in the hospital.
In her response, the mother of one of the Christmas babies, Mrs Faith Ezekiel, thanked Wike for her commitment to the welfare of the less privileged.
The Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Paul Ledee Kwa, commended the state government for placing premium on quality healthcare delivery. (NAN)
