Sunderland’s Victor Anichebe has admitted that they will have to come through tough fixtures during the Christmas period in the Premier League.
The Black Cats continued their revival under David Moyes, with a 2-1 win over champions Leicester City on Saturday. It is their third win in their last four matches.
But Anichebe is looking ahead to the hectic festive period.
“Christmas period is going to be tough. We’ve got more and more players coming back; Seb [Larsson] came today, Jan [Kirchoff] came back, Fabio has trained and there’s a lot of people coming back and hopefully there’s more competition for place. We are going to need everybody,” Anichebe told the club’s website.
“The Premier League is incredibly tough.”
Anichebe also expressed his happiness at staying injury free for an extended period and finding good form.
“I think this is the most game I’ve played in a row,” he continued.
“You know it is a really tough, tough league. We are going to need everybody. Sometimes some of the guys might not be playing, like today [against Leicester], but we’re going to need them. Every game is going to be really tough.
“Hopefully we can all come together and carry on and push it on.
“We have different game plans, sometimes like today, you see me on the left more; providing, next game, hopefully, I will be closer down the middle to get a goal. As long as I’m doing okay for the team, as long as everyone is doing alright for the team, that’s what we really care about.
“We need to get out of this situation we’re in. It’s looking bright and hopefully we can carry it on as the week goes by.”
