Christmas: Dogara, Shettima preach peace, kindness to the needy

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Yakubu Dogara, has revealed what will bring about development in Nigeria.

In a statement to mark Christmas, Dogara stated that exhibition of unconditional love by Nigerians would bring about a positive change that will lead to unity and development which will move the nation forward.

He further urged Christians to use the Christmas period to spread love to their neighbours and the underprivileged as they celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

“As we celebrate the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ, let us all remember that it is a time to spread the love of Christ with family, friends, neighbours and the underprivileged in the society.

“We should bear in mind that the greatest command Jesus gave to his followers is love one another.

“Not only does this have spiritual benefits, it will also make Nigeria a better place because love overcomes all things including hatred, violence and other vices,” he said.

“I wish all Nigerians happy celebration,” Dogara said.

Similarly, Governor Kashim Shettima on Sunday wished Nigerians a memorable Christmas with a call on residents of Borno State, to use the religious festival in renewing kindness to victims of Boko Haram insurgency.

He also appealed on citizens to re-dedicate concern for the education of over 52,000 school-age children whose parents were killed by Boko Haram.

Shettima’s Christmas message issued by his spokesman, Isa Gusau, read: “Governor Kashim Shettima urges Citizens to use the festival in showing love in whatever form to victims of the insurgency in hospitals, within IDP camps, or those living outside camps who are known to have suffered any form of trauma as a result of the crisis.

“The Governor has always been concerned about the plight of over 52,000 school aged orphans whose parents were killed by insurgents. This explains why the Governor has been personally supervising ongoing building of dozens of high class boarding primary and junior secondary schools specifically designed for the free and quality education of these orphans.

“Shettima also enjoins citizens to continually pray for the Nigerian Military, multi-national forces, volunteers and all security agencies to successfully complete their patriotic battle against the insurgents.

“The Governor calls on citizens to remain supportive and prayerful for God to keep protecting and strengthening international, and local humanitarian workers, and development partners who have committed human and material resources to making huge intervention in the ares of food, medical supplies, shelter and livelihoods.‎

“Governor Kashim Shettima assures citizens that security agencies in the State are dedicated to safeguarding lives and property throughout the Christmas period and beyond”, Gusau said.
