Three Persons have been confirmed dead as a result of cholera outbreak in Lokoja Local Government of Kogi State.
The Permanent Secretary, Kogi State Ministry of Health Dr Kolawole Johnson disclosed this at a news conference in Lokoja on Thursday.
Johnson noted that the ministry recorded 17 suspected cases, which consist of nine males and eight females.
The outbreak according to the Permanent Secretary occurred in Kabawa community, a remote area in the State Capital.
He frowned at media reports which stated that over five persons were confirmed dead and over 30 people hospitalized as a result of the cholera outbreak.
According to him; “The State Ministry of Health got a report of an outbreak of cholera in Kabawa community under Lokoja Local Government. Our Rapid Response team immediately swung into action and this is the summary of their findings.
“Total number of suspected cases is 17 which constitute of nine male and eight female. Numbers of Positive Cases of RTD is two. Numbers currently on admission receiving treatment is six, three in Kogi State Specialist Hospital while three in Ali Omeiza Hospital Lokoja. The affected persons are mostly adult. We could confirm that three persons have lost their lives as a result of the outbreak in the State capital.”
He called for proper hand washing, adequate hygiene and proper treatment of drinkable water to prevent the disease.
