Cholera outbreak: 900,000 targeted for vaccination in Borno

The Federal Government, yesterday, deployed oral cholera vaccines to be administered under the supervision of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

The Cholera vaccines according the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NCDC, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu is meant to target 900, 000 persons in the most affected surroundings.

“This is in an effort to curtail the spread of cholera outbreak in Borno, which has killed no fewer than 48 persons.

“NCDC has worked with the state government and National Primary Healthcare Development Agency to submit an application for cholera vaccines to be used in affected areas in Borno State, and we are happy that we can now say that, curtailing the menace is readily on the way,” he said.

DAILY POST reports that the centre has also issued guideline on how people can protect themselves against the deadly food and water borne disease.
