Five people have reportedly died of cholera at the Internally Displaced Persons’ ( IDP) camp in Biu L.G.A of Borno State.
The North-East Zonal office of National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Alhaji Abdulkadir has in response set up the Agency’s Search And Rescue Epidemic Response plan ( SAREEP ) at the camp.
Additional staff from the Agency and doctors From medicine sans frontiers MSF ( Doctors without borders ) have been despatched to assist the Red Cross Officials and other stakeholders at the camp clinics.
MSF had also donated some drugs and disinfectants to complement the drugs already provided by NEMA and other donors.
Additional pit latrines and a clinic have been erected in the camp to decongest the existing facilities.
Leaders among the IDPS were also trained on hygiene and sanitation skills with a view to maintaining a clean environment. Safe Drinking water has also been provided to the IDPS by NEMA.
