Abia state Governor, Theodore Orji had expressed his shock over the sudden demise of Prof. Chinua Achebe who passed away on Friday in a United States’ hospital.
Governor Orji, while expressing his shock said “Things have fallen apart, the centre cannot hold, we are no longer at ease”
Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Ugo Emezue, the Ochendo said, Ndigbo has lost a literary icon, a legend of all times and a hero whose novel remains a reference point in and outside the country.
Chief Orji, while lamenting the exit of Prof. Achebe maintained that he was yet to come to terms with the sudden demise of the genius who had risen the literary profile of the nation to an international standard.
The Governor declared that Prof Achebe had impacted positively on the lives of very many people through his literary works.
He affirmed that the late writer would be remembered for having stood by Ndigbo at all times, despite all odds.
“Though, Prof Achebe became a bit challenged through an accident that affected his legs years ago, he waxed stronger, and had no doubt impacted great knowledge on young people, as one of the most reputable lecturers abroad”, the Governor expressed.
Chief Orji asserted that the Governors of the South East were determined to do their best by ensuring that Achebe is given a befitting burial.
He commiserated with the family of the late writer, praying God to give them the fortitude to bear the unfortunate loss.
