The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State, on Sunday said it was certain of victory for its candidates on all elective positions in the February general election.
This is also as the party reaffirmed its determination to mobilise the people of the state to vote massively for its gubernatorial candidate, Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi in the February 28 election in the state.
It, however, said it would not underrate the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC), whose candidate, Okey Ezea is making a third attempt for the governorship having lost out in 2007 and 2011 to Governor Sullivan Chime.
Briefing newsmen, the Director General of the Enugu state PDP Campaign Organisation, Charles Egumgbe and Secretary, Rita Mbah said the party was relying on the massive support it has received across the 17 councils of the state.
While disclosing that the party’s campaign would formally kick-off in Isiuzo local government area of the state on Monday, the campaign organisation said the achievements of Governor Chime in the last seven years have made it easier for the party to emerge victorious at all levels in the state.
“We don’t underrate any candidate. The APC candidate is not a stronger to us. We’ve met before and he was defeated; this time around will not be different. Maybe, this time around, he’ll be defeated at his ward.
“Our message to the people is to ask them to continue to believe in us. We’ve had a partnership with the people over the years and we are very optimistic that that partnership will continue even after the election,” they noted.
The party further disclosed that it would institute a prize for the local government that returns the highest number of votes to the party in the elections stressing that the “we are not talking about winning, but it’s going to be a landslide considering the popularity and acceptability of our candidate”.
Egumgbe specifically disclosed that Governor Chime will lead the party’s campaigns to all the councils where candidates at all levels would be presented to the people.
