Chime not in APC because EFCC is pursuing him – Oyegun

The immediate past governor of Enugu State, Barr. Sullivan Chime on Saturday formerly registered as a member of the All Progressive Congress, APC.

His registration came with a declaration from the national chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun that “Chime is not joining the APC because the EFCC is pursuing him.”

The registration exercise, which took place at Chime’s Udi Agbudu ward, in Udi Council Area, witnessed a mammoth crowd.

Other dignitaries at the event included Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, members of the APC national working committee members, the Director-General of Voice of Nigeria, VON, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, among others.

Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, Chime was registered as a member of the APC in a session coordinated by the National organizing secretary of the party, Senator Osita Izunaso.

He was thereafter issued with a membership card No 0669001.

DAILY POST, however, reports that other prominent members of the party, including former governor of old Anambra State, Chief Senator Jim Nwobodo, former Senate President, Chief Senator Ken Nnamani, former Enugu SSG, Chief Ken Nnamani shunned the rally.

No reason was given for their absence at the event.

In a speech, Oyegun described the crowd as overwhelming, declaring that “I have been to the South-East several times but this is by far the greatest crowd.

“I am happy to be here today; change has totally come to Enugu State; people keep joining but for me, the South-East is special. It is special because for too long you have been deprived.”

While describing Ndigbo as the most intelligent, the most industrious and the most accommodating, Oyegun added that time had come for them “to reap the fruit of your labour.

“Part of our plan is to ensure that South-East returns to the mainstream of Nigeria politics. It is important because I grew up‎ to know Nigeria as being balanced on a tripod. Can the the other two stand alone?”

On Chime he said as governor, he worked as a man of vision, a performer, adding “joining us today is something to celebrate; it is something to celebrate because he is serving the future.

“He saw the damage that last regime did to the economy of this country; Sullivan observed the suffering of the people and wants to help remedy the damage.”

Oyegun expressed certainty that “come the next election, APC will take over Enugu State. What we have come today is the semi-final; we shall soon come for the finals.”

In a remark after receiving his membership card and a broom, the APC official symbol, Chime reiterated his earlier statements that the PDP was dead.

“I thank God that I have finally left that wreckage, the wreckage of once upon a time great party, PDP.

“I can assure you that their seems to be no other option; the only place you can be now if you are politically active is the APC”, Chime stated.
