Chime commissions ultra modern workers’ secretariat, gives car to best worker

Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State, Friday, commissioned the new ultra modern civil service secretariat in Enugu with a charge to workers in the state to upgrade their capacities in line with the facilities obtainable in the edifice.

Speaker during the ceremony, Chime disclosed that the multi-billion facility was built entirely with internally generated revenue, adding that it was designed to improve job satisfaction and productivity among the workers.

Recalling the criticisms and doubts that had greeted the project when it was started, the Governor said its completion was a demonstration of the commitment of his administration to radically transform the lives of Enugu people in all respects despite daunting odds.

“When we started this project, we were called all sorts of names and all kinds of allegations were leveled against us but today we can see that the dream has become a reality. I feel highly fulfilled”, he said.

He further disclosed that all cadres of workers in the state had been undergoing requisite training to enable them function properly in the new secretariat, adding that they were now expected to show more dedication and commitment to their duties.

The Governor, who was accompanied at the occasion by the Governor-elect of the state, Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and his Deputy Hon Cecilia Ezeilo, along with other top government functionaries, thanked Enugu people for their support in ensuring the completion of the project.

He enjoined them to continue paying their taxes, especially when fully assured that the funds will be used for their own benefits.

Highlights of the occasion, were the cutting of a tape by Governor Chime to declare it open and the dedication of the complex by the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Most Rev Dr Callistus Onaga.

Also at the occasion, Governor handed over a brand new Hyundai Elentra car to the winner of the best worker in the state award, Mrs Veronica Ogbu.

The first and third runners up are also to received the sums of N1 million and 500, 000 naira respectively.
