Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Enugu State, Dr. Ben Nwoye, on Thursday described former governor Chimaroke Nnamani’s defection to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as a costly mistake.
Nwoye said it was an error for Nnamani to rejoin the (PDP), a party he left to for the People for Democratic Change (PDC).
He spoke during a mini-rally to receive a former PDP stalwart and business mogul, Chief Ekwo Asaa and his sister, Lovina Asaa, into the APC, at Umuaga, in Udi local government area of the state.
Nwoye expressed shock that Chimaroke would head back to PDP when other prominent members of the party in the state were running away due to the party’s poor state of health.
“I think it is part of the freedom to exercise his right, but he has continued in the path of mistake; a path of mistake when he founded a one-man party, (PDC) and that mistake took him out of the senate seat.
“And now, when everyone is sounding the alarm warning that PDP is gone, is decimated, at least in Enugu State, he is taking the other path.
“So, where people are coming out from is where he is rushing to; I say it’s his own political decision but it’s absolutely not a threat.
“If the former governor, Chimaroke wants to go on and join a party that is clearly not in existence, it’s his own personal business, but then again our doors are open if he changes his mind,” he said.
He commended the new defectors, Chief Asaa and his sister, Lovinna, and other prominent PDP members that had earlier defected to APC, including the former Governor of the state, Barr. Sullivan Chime, for taking a wise and bold decision.
In a remark at the occasion, the former Governor, Chime stressed that he did not leave PDP because of any quarrel with anybody but because the party was dead.
He commended the APC chairman, Dr. Nwoye for his vibrancy and indefatigable spirit, as well as that of other members of the party, saying such tenacity was responsible for the success of the party.
He re-echoed his boasting that APC will definitely take over Enugu State in 2019.
