The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Enugu State Command, has disclosed that since the beginning of this year, its operatives has rescued over 30 children and teenagers who were about to be trafficked to neighbouring countries to be engaged in child labour.
While disclosing this at a news conference in Enugu, the Commandant, NSCDC in Enugu State, Mr. Stephen Zwali Lar, said the teenagers were camped in various hotels in the state by some unidentified traffickers.
He however, noted that the traffickers have since been arrested.
“If the NSCDC operatives had not rescued the teenagers, the culprits would have trafficked them to neighboring countries for child labour.
“Operatives of the Command rescued the children and teenagers after raiding the hotels where they were kept,” Lar said, adding that they were subsequently handed over to relevant authorities.
