The embattled leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Chidi Lloyd has pleaded not guilty to the six count charge slammed on him by the police.
The charge included attempted murder, assault, willful damage amongst others.
The judge, Justice Letam Nyordee, ruled on the two pending preliminary issues before the court, which were the validity of the legal prosecution and whether or not the time the Attorney General of the state announced to take over the trial was pre-mature.
In his ruling, Nyordee said the police had the legal right to hire a private lawyer to prosecute an accused in a criminal case, adding that appointment of Donald Nwigwe to prosecute Chidi Lloyd was in order.
He also ruled that the period at which the attorney general of Rivers State, Worgu Boms announced to take over the case was pre-mature, as criminal proceedings had not commenced.
The court, adjourned to Wednesday, August 7, 2013 to rule on bail application submitted by the defense counsel, Beluolisa Nwofor and ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody.
Meanwhile, the Attorney General, Worgu Boms, who took over the trial, immediately plea was taken by the accused person, requested the court to strike out a counter affidavit filed against the bail application.
The counter affidavit was filed by the prosecution counsel hired by the police.
The court granted the Attorney General’s request.
