The Senate on Wednesday received an investigative report on a petition by one Dr. George Uboh of Panic Alert Security Systems against Chevron Nigeria Limited bothering on alleged fraud to the tune of ($4,926,464,100) Four Billion, Nine Hundred and Twenty Six Million, Four Hundred and Sixty Four Thousand, One Hundred dollars.
The report which was presented by the Chairman, Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, Senator Samuel Anyanwu (PDP) Imo East followed a mandate by the Senate to unravel fraud allegations involving Chevron Nigeria Limited.
Before laying the report at the plenary, Senator Anyanwu sought for collaboration of Senators to give the report an expeditious scrutiny to save the nation of loss of huge sums of money, noting that it was time the 8th Assembly stood in defence of her citizens.
“That the Senate do receive the Report of the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions in respect of a petition from. Dr. George Uboh of Panic Alert Security Systems against Chevron Nigeria Limited for fraud of over Four Hundred and Twenty Six Million, Four Hundred and Sixty Four Thousand, One Hundred dollars”, Anyanwu submitted.
In his remark, Senate President, Bukola Saraki commended the Committee for expeditious handling of the matter, while reiterating the Senate’s commitment to sanitizing the oil industry through enabling laws.
“Committee Chairman, distinguished Colleagues, I want to recognise the timely investigation of the petition which we all looked forward to and I will also add that we will sanitize the system through appropriate laws”, Saraki remarked.
The report having been laid, the stage is now set for deliberations by the entire Senators at any other sitting to determine appropriate sanctions based on recommendations of the report.
