Diego Costa scored the only goal, as Chelsea defeated Middlesbrough 1-0 to go top of the Premier League on Sunday.
Antonio Conte’s men had scored 16 goals in their previous five league encounters, but were stifled for long periods at the Riverside Stadium.
However, Costa turned home his 10th strike in the league this season in the 41st minute of play, to secure a sixth consecutive win and clean sheet for Chelsea.
The victory means the Blues now have 28 points, one ahead of Liverpool and Manchester City.
Their next two fixtures in the league, will be against Tottenham at Stamford Bridge and a trip to Pep Guardiola’s City.
