Chelsea have confirmed that Pedro Rodriguez has signed for the club from Barcelona.
The Spain international appeared to be heading to Manchester United, but the Red Devils were haggling over his buy-out clause of £22 million, which allowed Jose Mourinho to step in and hijack the deal.
Barcelona said in an official statement: “”FC Barcelona and Chelsea FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of Pedro Rodríguez for 30 million euros, of which 3 million are dependent on performance.
“The Club wishes to publicly express its gratitude to Pedro Rodríguez for his professionalism and dedication while with the Club, as well as to wish him all the best in the future.”
Mourinho and midfielder Cesc Fabregas spoke to Pedro about joining the Premier League champions and convinced him to snub United’s interest.
The 28-year-old winger becomes Chelsea’s third major signing of this summer, following the arrival of Radamel Falcao and Asmir Begovic.
