Cheick Tiote’s death: Man City, Newcastle, West Ham, others react

Manchester City, Newcastle United, West Ham and several footballers have mourned Beijing Enterprises midfielder Cheick Tiote who passed on Monday.

The player died after being rushed to hospital on Monday after he collapsed and died during training.

The midfielder died at the age of 30, leaving a sport in mourning as it tried to digest the tragedy.

Newcastle wrote via its twitter handle, @NUFC, “We are devastated to have learnt of the tragic passing of former Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tioté in China today.”

Manchester City captain, @Vincent Kompany wrote, “I am speechless and so incredibly sad. Cheick Tioté was one of the nicest and toughest teammates I have ever had. Rest in peace brother.”

Swansea City wrote, “Rest in peace, Cheick Tiote. The thoughts of everyone at @SwansOfficial are with his friends and family.”

West Ham United reacted, “Rest in peace, Cheick Tioté. An incredible competitor taken far too soon.”

@Man city wrote, “We are saddened to hear of the sudden, tragic passing of Cheick Tioté and would like to express our condolences to his friends and family.”
