Champions League: Why Zidane is keen on avoiding Juventus in knockout stages

Real Madrid boss, Zinedine Zidane, has admitted he is hoping to avoid a return to Juventus in the Champions League.

The La Liga giants blew a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Borussia Dortmund, a result that meant they qualify as runners-up from Group F.

Madrid will avoid teams like Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich in Monday’s draw, but will face one of Leicester City, Arsenal, Juventus, Monaco or Napoli.

When asked which clubs he wants to avoid, Zidane told reporters: “Juventus for two reasons. I am very proud of the players and how they played against a great team with good players.

“We needed to be a bit more attentive in the final 10 minutes.

“We have to forget about it and move on. Given what we had done (in the group) until now it was logical that they finished top and us second.”

Zidane joined Madrid from the Italian giants for a world-record fee in 2001.
