Champions League: Why Liverpool fans thanked Arsenal after 3-0 win over Manchester City

Liverpool fans have thanked Arsenal following a stunning performance by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the Champions League quarter final against Manchester City on Wednesday.

Chamberlain, who joined Liverpool from Arsenal in January, put up a standout moment of his career with a stunning strike to put the Reds 2-0 ahead.

The Reds’ fans thanked Arsene Wenger-led Arsenal for selling the Englishman to Liverpool.

The 24-year-old has had a mixed start to his Anfield career but has impressed in central midfield for the Merseyside giants in recent weeks.

Mohamed Salah scored Liverpool’s opening goal – obviously – but it was Oxlade-Chamberlain who took centre stage in the 20th minute.

The former Arsenal man received the ball 30 yards out from the goal before driving at goal and unleashing a thunderous shot.

Sadio Mane made it 3-0 to the Reds in the 30th minute to put his side out of sight before the second leg.

It was all about Oxlade-Chamberlain’s effort, and Liverpool supporters began thanking Arsenal for the midfielder.

Here are their reactions:

@JoeCasss, “Absolutely disgusting. Thank you Arsenal.”

@Allan2Gallon, “Thank you arsenal! #oxoutsidethebox.”
