Sevilla manager, Eduardo Berizzo, told his players he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer during half time, before their incredible three-goal comeback against Liverpool on Tuesday in the Champions League.
The La Liga club produced a brilliant second-half performance, to come from 3-0 down at home to secure a draw in stoppage time.
Guido Pizarro’s goal sparked wild celebrations from the players, who ran over to Berizzo and embraced him.
And after the game, reports emerged that the comeback was inspired by distressing news.
The reports were confirmed by other journalists including Spanish football expert Guillem Balague who tweeted: “Eduardo Berizzo, Sevilla manager, has got prostate cancer. His real big game starts now.
“Sevilla will confirm soon in a public note”
The club has not publicly commented on the reports, but confirmed a press conference will be held on Wednesday.
