Champions League: Wenger grateful to Ludogorets as Arsenal finish top ahead of PSG

Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has expressed his joy, after his team finished as Group A winners in the UEFA Champions League.

The Gunners went into the final round of fixtures in second place, behind Paris Saint-Germain on head-to-head. However the Ligue 1 champions were held to a 2-2 draw at home by Ludogorets, while Arsenal beat Basel 4-1 in Switzerland.

This means Wenger’s mean finished top with 14 points, two ahead of PSG.

It was the first time Arsenal will end a Champions League group stage as winners since the 2011/2012 season.

“Ludugorets were a good side – they made a great result that helped us top the group, which was what we wanted,” Wenger said in his post-match press conference.

“We did the job in a convincing way, we were mobile and overall had a committed performance.

“It is difficult to know but you feel a bit less guilty if you have a bad draw, if first than second – we have done our job and let’s see what happens.”
