Ajax’s Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Edwin van der Sar, has confirmed that captain, Matthijs de Ligt, will leave the club this summer to join a big club in England or Spain.
Van der Sar, a former Manchester goalkeeper, said this following Ajax’s Champions League semi-final second leg 3-2 defeat to Tottenham.
A second-half hat-trick from Lucas Moura ensured Mauricio Pochettino’s men dumped the Dutch side out of the Champions League.
De Ligt has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, Barcelona, Liverpool, Juventus and Manchester City in recent weeks.
“I think these will be De Ligt’s final games with Ajax, but I hope he goes out on a high,” Van der Sar told Sky Sport Italia.
“He’s been here since he was a child and will end up at a big club.
“I think he’ll go to England or Spain.”
