Champions League: Valencia manager, Celades reveals why Chelsea fell 1-0 at Stamford Bridge

Valencia boss, Albert Celades, has revealed why his team was able to beat Chelsea 1-0 at the Stamford Bridge on Tuesday. Chelsea were making their return to the Champions League group stages, but their first game ended in disappointment as a second half Rodrigo goal sealed victory for the La Liga side.

Ross Barkley had a late chance to equalise from the spot, but the England midfielder put the penalty over the bar.

Celades told post match press conference at Stamford Bridge, “We are delighted, it is very difficult to come here and get the win, the team did a great job and we hope to talk about football from now on.”

On set pieces, he added, “That was something we worked on before the Barcelona game.

“I have the respect for everyone, but I want to talk about football. We have to focus about the future, it’s a hard fought win and a difficult one.

“Playing in the Champions League is something the players earned and they showed a lot of commitment and we have to be proud of them today.

“We did change formation a few times, but it is the players who should take the credit today.

“The players are very happy after a win and they know how difficult it is to win here. I never felt alone and felt the players’ support. We need to be calm, of course we have won, we need to keep improving.”
