Champions League: Solskjaer sends strong message to Sanchez after Man United’s 3-0 loss to Barcelona

Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hopeful that forward, Alexis Sanchez, can help the club to finish in the Premier League top four this season.

Solskjaer said this following Man United’s 3-0 defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-final second leg tie on Tuesday.

Lionel Messi netted twice and set up Philippe Coutinho for the third goal, as Barcelona qualified for the semi-final on a 4-0 aggregate.

Sanchez, who returned from a knee injury he sustained six weeks ago, came on for Jesse Lingard in the 80th minute during Man United’s defeat to Barcelona.

The Chilean international received a warm ovation from fans at Camp Nou where he spent three years at Barca and came close to score a header that was excellently clawed away by goalkeeper, Ter Stegen.

“Alexis has been injured now since March 1,” Solskjaer was quoted by BirminghamLive as saying after the match.

“So he’s been out for six weeks and it was important he got 15 minutes on the pitch for his mentality so he knows his knee is okay, and he was close to getting a goal and had a couple of other instances that he showed his talent.

“Hopefully, he can give us a good push towards the end of the season to get in the top four.”
