Champions League Roundup: Messi’s magic sends Barca through, Galatasary qualify

Lionel Messi scored twice, as Barcelona completed a remarkable turnaround, in the second leg of their Champions League encounter, to beat AC Milan 4-0.

The Argentine was in irresistible form tonight and it took him just five minutes to open scoring. After a neat one-two with Xavi on the edge of the box, Messi curled a glorious effort into the roof of the net. Five minutes before the break, he found space again and fired the second past Abiatti, after Niang hit the woodwork.

David Villa added a sublime third, as Allegri’s men huffed and puffed at the Camp Nou. Jordi Alba added a late goal, as the Catalans moved into the last eight of the competition.

In Germany, Galatasaray defeated Schalke 04 3-2 to also book their place in the next round.

With the tie evenly poised after a 1-1 draw in Istanbul, it took the home side just 17 minutes to find a goal – Roman Neustadter poking in the ball, after a goalmouth scramble. Hamit Altintop then rammed in an unstoppable drive against his former side, to level scores.

Burak Yilmaz grabbed a second for the Turkish champions, before Michel Bastos equalised again. As Schalke continued to press for a winner, Galatasaray broke away and Umut Bulut scored the third goal.
