Champions League: Ronaldo beats Messi to top scorer award

Cristiano Ronaldo has beaten Lionel Messi to the Champions league top scorer award, following his brace against Juventus in Saturday’s final in Cardiff.

Ronaldo scored the first goal in the 20th minute and made it 3-1 in the 64th minute.

It means the 32-year-old finishes the competition on 12 goals, one clear of Messi, after the Barcelona forward did not play since the quarter-finals, when they lost to Juve.

Ronaldo has now either won or shared the award for five consecutive seasons and has six overall top scorer triumphs.

Messi is one behind on five wins. He was outright winner for four straight years from 2009 to 2012, before sharing it in 2014/2015 with Ronaldo and Barca team-mate Neymar, when they all scored 10 times in that campaign.
