Champions League: Rio Ferdinand singles out two Liverpool stars for praise after 4-0 win over Barcel

Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand has hailed two Liverpool stars, following the Reds 4-0 win over Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final second leg at Anfield last night.

Ferdinand believes the defensive roles of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson paid off.

The ex-England international noted that Alexander-Arnold and Robertson both played a key role in Liverpool’s comeback against Barcelona, adding that the full-backs were “fantastic”.

Divock Origi and Gini Wijnaldum both scored twice against Barcelona, as Jurgen Klopp’s side made it into their second successive final in the Champions League.

“It’s the modern-day full-back, you want them to defend and get forward,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.

“I think the range in their play, in terms of when they get into the final third, they can whip it from outside of the box, they can get into the box, they cut the ball back.

“I just think their all-around game, both of them [Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson], is fantastic. It’s almost a mini-competition within the team – who can get the most assists,” he added.
