Champions League: Rio Ferdinand reveals Klopp’s one mistake after Liverpool’s 4-0 win over Barcelona

Former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand has revealed the one mistake Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp made following the Reds’ Champions League semi-final second leg 4-0 win over Barcelona at Anfield on Tuesday night.

Two goals each from Divock Origi and Gini Wijnaldum ensured Klopp’s men made it into their second successive final in the Champions League.

Ferdinand believes Klopp made one mistake by benching defender, Trent Alexander-Arnold during Liverpool’s Champions League semi-final first leg 3-0 defeat to Barcelona last week at Nou Camp.

The former England international said that Alexander-Arnold should not have been left at the expense of Joe Gomez in the first leg.

Ferdinand told BT Sport on Tuesday night, “Maybe, in the Camp Nou, with hindsight which is a beautiful thing if you could have it, [not selecting] Trent Alexander-Arnold was the one mistake you could look back on, he could have done differently.

“He [Klopp] went with Joe Gomez, out of the wilderness with a long injury and is mainly a centre-back.

“But I understand [why Gomez was picked] because of his defensive responsibilities were huge, Barca’s left side is such a strong part of their game.”
