Champions League: Rio Ferdinand blasts Chelsea players for allowing Nigerian striker score in 2-1 ov

Former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand, has blasted Chelsea players for allowing Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen score Lille’s first goal in the Blues’ 2-1 win in the Champions League last night.

Chelsea have only kept one clean sheet all season and that was in their last Premier League game against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Ferdinand was critical of how Frank Lampard’s side have been defending set pieces.

“They have conceded goals all season, and I never liked to do zonal marking as a player,” he told BT Sport.

“Not one person is there to challenge him [Victor Osimhen]. Players are just looking at the ball and they don’t see what is behind them. It creates problems and it creates tension and worry.

“The main problem, as players, you can shift responsibility and you can blame two or three people, and that’s a problem in itself.

“Maybe players aren’t as trustworthy today, maybe they don’t want the responsibility. Maybe managers don’t feel the players are capable of taking on the responsibility.

“I was a player that liked to be told ‘there is your man’ so I was fearful of not marking him.”
