Hart-Roma-Dec2014

Despite missing important players like Yaya Toure, Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany, Manchester City showed guts and determination to beat Roma 2-0 in Rome and qualify for the next round of the Champions League.

The hosts wasted a number of chances in the early exchanges and failed to make their dominance count. Samir Nasri then fired Manuel Pellegrini’s men into the lead in the second half, before setting up Pablo Zabaleta to settle the tie in the dying minutes.

Bayern Munich’s 3-0 victory over CSKA Moscow, means City qualify in second place.

Jose Mourinho was able to rest some of his key men, but still record a 3-1 win over Sporting Lisbon at Stamford Bridge. The result means that former Blues boss Roberto Di Matteo, qualified Schalke into the knock-out stages, thanks to a 1-0 win over Maribor.

In other games, Barcelona recovered from an early Zlatan Ibrahimovic goal, to beat Paris Saint-Germain 3-1. FC Porto drew 1-1 with Shakhtar Donestk, Athletic Bilbao beat BATE 2-0 and Ajax hammered APOEL 4-0.
