Bayern Munich took a big step into the finals of this year’s Champions League competition, with a 4-0 mauling of Barcelona on Tuesday evening. Thomas Muller got a brace, while Arjen Robben and Mario Gomez scored one apiece, to give the German champions a commanding lead.
Robben missed an early chance to give Bayern the lead, but Muller headed in, after Dante towered above Dani Alves to keep the ball in. Viktor Kassai turned down to penalty appeals, before Gomez turned in the home side’s second goal in the 49th minute.
Robben scored the third, after sprinting past Jordi Alba and expertly finding the bottom corner. Muller made the scoreline more emphatic, turning into Alaba’s cross from the right.
Barcelona now have a huge task of attempting to overturn the deficit at the Nou Camp next Wednesday, if they are to stand any chance of qualifying for the finals at Wembley
